Dexter season 8

Dexter Morgan is a Forensics Expert, a loyal brother, boyfriend, and friend. That's what he seems to be, but that's not what he really is. Dexter Morgan is a Serial Killer that hunts the bad.

For a drama in which a serial killing anti-hero disposed of more than 130 people, the melodramatic finale of Dexter (Fox) was a bit of let down. The final episode of a long-running series is always tricky to pull off, but allowing Dexter Morgan (played so cleverly by Michael C Hallthroughout the eight seasons) to supposedly take his own life by steering his beloved boat into the jaws of a hurricane only to later pop up working in a lumber yard sporting a heavy beard, was frankly a bit of a cop out. He didn’t look particularly happy either, he just looked angry. Maybe he would rather have ended it alll with a bloodbath.

For such a methodical and meticulous character, it was an improbable exit. Of course, it was never going to end perfectly for Dexter, his girlfriend Hannah (Yvonne Strahovski) and his young son, particularly after he had a hand in the death of his beloved adoptive sister, Debra (Jennifer Carpenter). When Dexter announced in the penultimate episode that “the future looks brighter than it’s ever been”, you just knew that happiness would never work for the man “born in blood”. This was a man who unwittingly destroyed everything he loved. Any doubts about a new beginning were reinforced when, just before he got the better of his last (and one of his best) adversaries, Dexter said to Oliver Saxon (Darri Ingolfsson) that he had opened his “eyes to the trail of blood and body parts”.
